28 Jul EVA Update for 7-16-21
Good afternoon EVA family!
It is already the middle of July and we are just a few weeks from the start of the 2021-2022 school year. I hope that you and your family can enjoy these last few days before the busyness of school is here. Here are a few things to know as we finish up the summer.
The first day of school is Monday, August 9th, and that is a half day of school. Elementary (Grades K-6) is dismissed at 11:30 and the Middle and High schools are dismissed at 11:50. Parent/Student Orientation will take place the prior week on Thursday, August 5th for grades 1-12. Returning Student Orientation will take place from 4:30-5:30 and New Student Orientation will take place from 6:30-7:30. K-5 Orientation will take place the following day (Friday, August 6th) from 9am-10am. This will be a great time to meet your teachers, see where your classes will be, and get information about the upcoming school year. Please mark these dates and times on your calendar.
We do have a few weeks before we get to that and there is plenty to be done to prepare for the school year. If you have not already done so, please order your student’s school uniforms. Our Dean of Students, Cathy Rottmann, has put together a great review of the school dress code for 2021-2022. Please take a few minutes and watch this when you have an opportunity.

Students in grades 7-12 should have completed a course request form by now. If your student is in those grades and you have not yet received that, please contact Nancy Hall (nhall@evajax.com) and she will provide that. Also be sure to order your student’s books. It is vitally important that they have their books at the beginning of the school year so that they can get off to the best start. If your student is in grades 4-12, they also need to be completing their summer reading. You can find the summer reading assignments at the link below.

The health and safety protocols for the upcoming school year will be modified from last year. Students will still be temperature checked and screened for symptoms at the beginning of each school day. Students that are fever-free and not exhibiting symptoms are expected to be at school each day. Students that have a fever or are exhibiting symptoms of a contagious illness will be sent home. Parents and students are not required to wear masks when on campus, but they may do so if they would like. Any teacher, student, or staff member that tests positive for COVID-19 will need to quarantine for 10 days from the onset of symptoms, and then they can return to school as long as they are fever-free and their symptoms are improving. Absences due to illness can be excused with a doctor’s note or proof of a positive COVID-19 test. Students that must work from home will find lesson plans in the Parent/Student Portal. Warriors from Home and Google Classroom will not be utilized this year. All health and safety protocols are subject to change based on guidance from the Florida Department of Education and local health officials.
Finally, our school office will be having some work done so it will be closed on Thursday, July 22nd. We will still be on campus working, but the office will be inaccessible, and the phones will not be monitored on that day. If you have questions, the office will be open Monday through Wednesday of next week, and then we will be back to a full schedule Monday through Friday starting Monday, July 26th.
Please reply if you have any questions or reach out to us at 904-786-1411. Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you soon!
Sincerely,
Josh Sheetz
